Four leading AI engines, tested through their APIs
The Index measures recommendations from four widely used AI systems. Every prompt is sent through the corresponding paid API so each monthly edition is collected in a consistent, repeatable way.

The prompt set
This edition uses 50 prompt IDs across 25 AI-tool categories—two prompts per category. Each prompt was submitted once to each of the four AI engines, producing 200 responses in total. Prompt IDs and category labels are retained so every result can be traced back to the corresponding source row.
The engines
OpenAI, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude. Each prompt is submitted once through the corresponding paid API during the same seven-day collection window. We use the first completed response, with no retries or cherry-picking.
What counts as a citation
A brand is counted when it is named in the answer body or linked as a source. The first response counts—no retries and no cherry-picking. Refusals and brandless answers are logged as zero for all brands.
Disclosure
SaaSArc is included in the tracked brand set, and our own result is published every month, including when it is zero. SaaSArc has affiliate relationships with some tracked brands; the measurement protocol is identical for every brand, and affiliate status has no effect on the data.
A simple view of AI recommendation visibility
For each category, we review a consistent set of AI-generated recommendations and count whether a tool appears in each answer. A tool is counted once per answer, even when it is mentioned several times.
What the percentage means: a 50% mention rate means the tool appeared in half of the reviewed answers for that category. The Index measures visibility in AI recommendations—not overall product quality or guaranteed market share.
